Evaluations & Preventative Care

Our doctors and staff perform comprehensive exams on each patient.
Our team of friendly, caring professional hygienists will clean your teeth from plaque and calculus. They will also discuss natural home care techniques and may recommend natural, organic products to assist in your daily preventative care.

Oral Cancer Screening

The tissue and overall health of your mouth can be affected by certain lifestyle choices like alcohol or smoking. Therefore it is important to have oral cancer screenings as part of your dental exam. Dr. Aver or Dr. Ganzman will perform a thorough oral cancer exam that includes more than a glimpse of your mouth. The doctor will feel your face, neck, lips, mouth, tongue, thyroid gland, salivary glands and lymph nodes for any abnormalities.

Temporomandibular Disorder

It is estimated that over 10 million Americans are affected by TMJ Disorders-a condition that causes pain and dysfunction in the jaw joint and the muscles that control jaw movement. As part of your preventive care exam, the doctor will perform a noninvasive Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD) exam.

What to expect:

  • An examination of your bite alignment

  • Feel for tenderness or abnormalities of the joint and muscles

  • Pressing areas of the head to identify areas of sensitivity or painful

  • Inspecting the jaw as it opens and shuts

  • X-rays of the jaw (if necessary)

Craniosacral Screening

Our doctors are trained in Craniosacral Therapy and perform a craniosacral screening as part of our whole-body approach. It encourages the body’s natural healing process by releasing tensions through the use of gentle touches and very light pressure. As part of a patient’s exam and before dental work is performed, the doctor balances the craniosacral system to release any tension in the jaw, bones and teeth, restoring a natural balance to the patient’s mouth, hard palate, and temporomandibular joints.

Digital X-rays and Intraoral Photos

The use of digital X-rays is a standard practice in our office. Digital X-rays are safer, faster, more comfortable and help reduce your exposure to radiation up to 90% compared to traditional film X-rays. Digital X-rays also allow for a healthy, green environment since it eliminates the need to use toxic chemicals from film development. We also use an intraoral (IO) camera which can expose hard to see areas, cracks, and decay that are not noticed by the naked eye.

Restorative and Gum Evaluation

Our doctors take the time to evaluate all restorative dental work and screen for signs of gum disease. Gum disease is common, but can be prevented through proper, consistent periodontal care and nutrition. We will look for signs of gum disease and discuss a treatment plan that includes nutrition and natural remedies for prevention and treatment if needed.

Bisphenol A (BPA) Free Sealants

Bisphenol A, better known as BPA, is a controversial chemical found in plastics which has been linked to health illnesses. Sealants are commonly used by dentists as a preventable measure against tooth decay for children. However, BPA-containing dental materials should be minimized. Our doctors strongly believe in avoiding unnecessary toxins and only use sealants that are BPA free, making them safe for children and pregnant women.
